Courtney & Troy Cliffs of Moher Elopement

Their first date was spent at a party on her dad’s boat on St. Patrick’ s Day 2007. This is the reason they eloped to Ireland with the help of Michelle McDermott from http://www.dreamirishwedding.com/ who planned the event and arranged the wedding to take plact on St. Patricks Day 2012 at the Cliffs of Moher. It was our first wedding at The Cliffs so we were super excited. Up until the week of the wedding there was talk of us being the witnesses but we’re delighted to report that Courtney’s sister made it back from Germany to be part of their special day.

Traditions of an Irish Wedding Ceremony

Have you ever dreamt of getting married in a Castle, an Irish Country Manor, historic site, or experiencing the sheer joy of a traditional Irish wedding ?

Many of the Irish wedding ceremonies traditions are very similar to those of the Celts. Some common Irish traditions include the following:

• Lucky Horseshoe – is considered good luck for the bride to carry a horseshoe during the ceremony. This may be a little cumbersome, however, so some brides simply stitch a horseshoe to the inside of their dress.
• Goose Dinner – A dinner can be given in which a goose is cooked for the groom. Of course, this is probably the origin of the saying, “His goose is cooked.” The dinner is typically held a day or two before the wedding.
• Honey Wine – Serving a honey wine, such as Bunratty Meade, at the reception is suppose to encourage virility. For those who want children right away, it’s worth a try!
• Hanky – Some women love to carry a hanky that can later be sewn into a bonnet for their baby. The child can carry on the tradition once she is born by reverting the bonnet back to a handkerchief and carrying it on her wedding day.
• Bell Ringing – The ringing of bells is said to keep away evil spirits. The bride and groom can ring the bell during the ceremony, and guests can be given tiny bells to ring as the bride and groom leave their reception for the honeymoon.
• Wedding Flowers -A bride might wear a wreath of wildflowers in her hair on her wedding day. If not, she can carry a bouquet filled with wildflowers.
• Wedding Cake -A true Irish wedding cake is a fruit cake, but since many couples don’t really want this type of cake at their reception, an alternative might be to only have the top layer as a fruit cake or make an extra fruit cake on the side and use a traditional wedding cake for the guests.
• Colors and Luck – Even though green is associated with the Irish, brides and the bridal party should never wear green at the ceremony! It is considered bad luck!

Irish Wedding Music ← There are so many beautiful choices of Irish music, and those who plan an Irish wedding ceremony might also want to hire Irish dancers. Harpists and pipers are always popular choices as musicians.

Irish Wedding Vows ← Many couples love to incorporate the lighting of the unity candle as they recite true Irish vows and incorporate Irish blessings and toasts into their ceremony and/or reception. Most of these blessings wish prosperity and luck on the couple.

Why shoud you hire a wedding planner ?

Many people keep asking themselves: “why should I hire a wedding Planner?

The question that springs to most people’s mind is “Why do I need a wedding planner when I can do it myself?”
Most people do not realize that planning a wedding is a very time consuming effort. On average, you spend between 200 to 300 hours! So, it makes sense to hire someone to manage this headache for you.

A wedding planner is also there to guide you through the stressful moments and takes care of all the details so that you can enjoy your own wedding. Considering the happy couple needs to choose locations for the ceremony and reception, handle caterers and menus, find flowers, cakes and photographers, the idea of handing these tasks over to a professional is quite liberating. A wedding planner can take care of any item, no matter how small. She’ll know the happy couple’s likes and dislikes and will make sure even the most minor details are perfect. Here is the main task you can be sure your wedding planner will do :

• A wedding planner will help you create a budget for the type of wedding you want to have
• Your wedding planner will keep record of your expenditures, and make money saving suggestions.
• A wedding consultant will help you stay within your wedding budget.
• Oftentimes, a wedding planner will receive merchandise at discounted prices, actually offsetting their fee.
• A wedding consultant knows A LOT of service providers and can recommend the best ones in your area. This includes florists, caterers, photographers, musicians, decorators, etc.
• A seasoned wedding planner will help guide your step-by-step through the planning system, and will make the appointments to meet with service providers at the appropriate time.
• A wedding consultant will take care of any emergency that arises.
• A wedding consultant will create an itinerary for your wedding day, and keep things on schedule as the event progresses.

Brides need a go-to person for etiquette, wedding-related questions, and to keep the planning timeline moving forward. All brides need a liaison to help keep emotions and relationships from straining during planning. Your wedding planner is a combination of Martha Stewart and Emily Post. Do you really have the time and inclination to research, answer, and solve the problem yourself?
The most important service a wedding planner provides, is alleviate some of the work (and stress) involved with planning a wedding. Wedding planning and the events that lead up to your day will be stressful. You should have one job only. Keeping yourself relaxed and living in the moment. You need time to take in and enjoy this special day. Be with your loved ones. Be happy. Be kind. And mostly, be assured that your wedding is going to be the most fabulous day of your life.
Yes, all weddings have glitches. And yours will, too. But your wedding planner will make sure you never have to deal with or see them. You may never even know anything out of the ordinary happened. And that is the sign that you are a genius at wedding planning. You started out with great ideas, hired a wedding planner to bring them to life, and sat back like a pampered princess on your wedding day accepting all the accolades that you deserve.
